Small, precise, and built to sit between worlds, the DirectOut EXBOX series is designed to move audio without friction.

It bridges MADI and networked audio formats, quietly handling conversion, clocking, and transport so the wider system stays aligned.

Three variants, each shaped around a different ecosystem, but all doing the same essential thing: keeping signal flowing, cleanly and without interruption.

DirectOut EXBOX.SG

The DirectOut EXBOX.SG is purpose-built for the Waves Audio ecosystem.

Up to 128 channels between MADI and SoundGrid

Designed for low-latency plugin processing

Integrated switching with four network ports for redundancy and direct server connection

Optimised for live mixing, OB vans, and Waves-based rigs

FAQ

What can the EXBOX be used for?

EXBOX devices are used to bridge different professional audio systems together, including:

In practice, EXBOX acts as a translation layer between incompatible audio ecosystems.

How many channels does the EXBOX support?

Channel count depends on the model, but typical configurations include:

  • Up to 64 channels (RAVENNA / Dante variants)
  • Up to 128 channels (SoundGrid variants at 48 kHz)
  • Reduced channel counts at higher sample rates (96 kHz and above)

This makes EXBOX suitable for both moderate I/O conversion and full system bridging workflows.

Does EXBOX support redundancy?

Yes. All EXBOX models are designed for mission-critical operation and include:

  • EARS™ automatic redundancy switching
  • Dual network ports (depending on model)
  • Dual power supply options or PoE support
  • Automatic failover between primary and backup audio sources

This ensures uninterrupted audio in live broadcast and touring environments.

Can EXBOX handle sample rate conversion between systems?

Yes. EXBOX includes FastSRC™ low-latency sample rate conversion, allowing asynchronous systems (e.g. Dante ↔ MADI or Ravenna ↔ MADI) to operate together without clock alignment issues.

This is especially important in hybrid AoIP + legacy digital workflows.

Which EXBOX version should I choose: Ravenna, SoundGrid, or Dante?

Each EXBOX variant is designed for a specific ecosystem, and the best choice depends entirely on your network infrastructure:

  • EXBOX RAV (Ravenna / AES67) → Best for broadcast and SMPTE ST 2110 environments
Designed for IP-based broadcast workflows using AES67 interoperability, ST 2022-7 redundancy, and NMOS device management.
  • EXBOX SG (SoundGrid) → Best for Waves DSP and live plugin workflows
Used in systems running Waves LV1 or SoundGrid servers where ultra-low latency processing and plugin integration are required.
  • EXBOX MD (Dante) → Best for general-purpose audio-over-IP systems
Ideal for flexible live sound, touring, and installation environments where Dante is the dominant network protocol.

Can I use different EXBOX versions in the same system?

Yes. EXBOX devices are designed for hybrid system integration, and different variants can be used together within a larger audio infrastructure.

For example:

  • Dante EXBOX units can feed networked consoles
  • Ravenna EXBOX units can connect broadcast core systems
  • SoundGrid EXBOX units can interface with Waves DSP servers

Interconnection is typically achieved via MADI bridging, network routing, or external AoIP gateways, depending on system architecture.

Because all EXBOX models share the same philosophy of redundancy (EARS™), sample rate conversion (FastSRC™), and network-based control (globcon), they are commonly deployed side-by-side in complex productions.
